City commences with road resurfacing along Main Road in Diep River

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with road resurfacing along Main Road between De Waal Road and Gabriel Road in Diep River. The first section of the work commenced last night, 25 November 2024 and is planned to take place until Thursday, 12 December 2024, if all goes as planned.
‘The project team has arranged for work to be done at night between 19:00 and 05:30 from Sunday to Friday to minimise the impact on road users along this busy route during the day. The maintenance work along Main Road is essential to ensure the longevity of this key road, however it is always very important that we consider how best to deliver on the necessary roadworks, while keeping Cape Town moving. We thank residents and business owners for their patience as they can expect some noise during this time,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The purpose of this project is to resurface the roads mentioned above, from the Schaay Road intersection up to Gabriel Road in Plumstead.
The work will be done in phases, with the second phase scheduled to commence in February 2025
Work includes the replacement of damaged or missing kerbs, repainting of retro-reflective line markings, and reinstating traffic signal equipment.
Road users should take note of the partial lane closures or lane reductions during the resurfacing works. However, the road will remain open for daytime traffic between 05:30 and 19:00.
